I made 2 more vintage button pins this week. After I made the 1 for my mom we decided to give one to Effie, a friend and previous owner of the quilt shop where I teach and my mom works. The shop was sold to new owners this week and alot of changes will be coming .
Mom let her choose between the 2 pins and she liked the brown the best. So I will be offering the green one for sale.
Since we have extensive button collections (mom and I both have tons of them) I will be making more of these to sell in the near future. I love beads and buttons!!!! I have so much fun doing my job because I get to play while I work!!!!
I really enjoyed exploring this stitch for this sample. Its a great stitch with potential for many more ideas than seen in my sample.
The first row in pink was a practice row to get the flow of the stitch going.
The second row in pink I stitched 1 short cross and 1 tall cross alternating across the row. I then stacked another row working the alternating short and tall cross buttonhole with previous row to create the pattern. I added the blue seed beads which highlight the difference in the stitch heights.
The third row is two rows of evenly space and even height overlapping each other.
The fourth row in burgundy is my favorite row on this sample. It will be a nice band on a crazy quilt block.
The fifth row in green and pink I extended the leg of the cross on the rigth and added a detatched chain stitch for a bud. This will also be a nice seam treatment.
The blue was playing with spacing in floss . Liked the stitching better in the perle cottons.
the bottom row lavendar stitches was heavier perle.
The bottom burgundy section was stacking with a longer leg which has potential to create a seperate pattern if they are squashed together a bit more.
To see Sharon's samples for this week go to www.inaminuteago.com/blog and poke around at the great stuff you will find there.
Sharon of www.inaminuteago.com posted a tutorial on making ric rac roses a week or so ago. I had commented that I made many of these but had forgotten how to get the center started and that I had made them with 2 colors of ric rac woven together instead of 1 color. I promised to post a photo of 1 made so here it is.
This is my latest piece of jewelry creation. I dont have time to make many of these pieces but my mom asked me to make this one for her. The button is a 1 3/4 inch vintage button made of mother of pearl. The photo does not do justice to the button at all. It is a wonderful piece. As you can see the bangle fringe is many types of beads and sequin items from my stash. This was a fun piece for me to make. It has a pin back on the back so it can be worn as a Brouch.
Happy Mother's Day to all the Moms out there. Have a great day!!!!!!!!!
here is my nearly finished crocheted and embroidered pouch. I still need to sew the lining in place, (thus the pins)
this is a photo of my completed pouch stitched with oyster stitch.
I have really gotten crazy with designing these. I love the texture effects that I have been using to create these one of a kind pouches. I still have plenty of ideas for more textured pieces cant wait to have the time to stitch them up. I have several of these on order for custom sized pouches for cell phones.
I just love stitching paisley motifs.
I started this motif by drawing the general pattern in my sketch book. I knew it would grow to something I really liked as I stitched.
I make my templates for all the Paisleys I stitch on transparency acetate instead of quilters template plastic because I can see the placement on my block better thru the clear acetate. I mark it with a fine point Sharpie marker.
After making the template shapes I trace around them with a chalk marking pencil on the block.
Hoop it and stitch it.
1. stitch the basque stitch around the outline of the paisley with the loops toward the outside.
2. stitch buttonhole around the outline with the legs toward the center.
3.stem stitch the center shape.
4. stem stitch the half circles and add french knots.
5. using the "Lazy Squaw Stitch" add the bead row around the inside of the center stem stitching row.
6.stem stitch the lines
7. the wheel flower is next. It is woven from the center for 5 rounds. whipped in reverse for 5 rounds, and whipped to fill the rest of the spokes. A bead was added for the center of the flower.
8. add the sequins with seed bead anchors
9. I added running stitches between the lines for extra textured look
10. need to find 2 nice beads for the spaces btween the lines. I will add them later . Not sure which ones to use yet.
Please feel free to use my paisley pattern to create your own paisley motif and link to me when you blog it.
