This is a bag I am working on . I am incorporating the TAST stitches into this piece. I am having fun with this piece and letting the fabric pattern tell me where the stitching should go. (Sounds nutty right? But the fabric speaks to my creative side) .
These photos show some of the ways I used the sheaf stitch on the bag. My favorite is the spot motif above. I will be adding beads to this motif. It is stitched in size 12 perle cotton. I am going to stitch this motif again and try it with different thread weights to see what it does to change the look of it.
I'm playing catch up on my stitching projects this week. I've been working on other things and haven't had time for stitching. I'm so happy to be catching up and have fun with the challenge stitches. Soooo, let's get right to the photos.
This first photo is a flower stitched with 25 wrap bullions and 2 strands of floss. The center of the flower will have a button when I get to that phase of stitching. I like to wait to add buttons and beads until the thread work is done or nearly done to prevent the hassles of trying to hoop around them.
The next photo is a group of flowers that I call spoke flowers for lack of a better name for them. They are 25 wrap bullions from Size 12 perle cotton. They will have beads added to the centers later.
This next photo is a nice seam treatment from size 8 perle cotton inspired by Sharon's samples. The bullion knots are 50 wraps. After stitching all the bullions I added a row of chain stitch along each side with the same perle cotton thread.
I really like the look I got from this, it kind of reminds me of some of the braid type trims I have in my stash.
I really like the things that can be done with bullion knots and I do use them often. Look at my previous posts to see a dimensional piece that also has bullion knots.
I havent had time yet this week to create a new sample of French knots so here is a pic of a tree on the crazy quilt vest I am making for my mom. The leaves are all french knots .
This is a pic of the "S" monogram on my granddaughters journal cover also done in French knots.
I have an idea for A new sample that hopefully I will get to stitch up before the "dead line".
This is my second sample of Oyster stitch. I was inspired by Sharons spiral sample to create a filled spiral for a cell phone pouch. I used a varigated crochet thread , persian type threads, floss and perle cottons in size 5 and 8 for this sample. I will be adding beads and maybe some more stitching highlights to it before I sew the cell phone pouch. Please visit Sharon's blog for more information on this challenge and other great stitching information.
Boy what a nightmare! I have used this stitch before but it was quite some time ago, so needless to say it took me a bit of time to get the hang of it again. I must admit that I had to get out a book for this one. I grabbed my copy of "Floral Stitches" by Judith Baker Montano (page 66) and followed the drawn pictures there to get the stitch going right for me.
Please dont get me wrong Sharon's stitch dictionary has excellant directions but I just couldnt wrap my head around them. Once I stepped away from the computer and studied the pics in the book I saw what i was doing wrong.
This first sample has a lot of failed attempts. The first 2 rows and the top circle of stitches are improperly worked.
By the 3rd row and the bottom flower I had it figured out.
So ......I will further explore this stitch later today. I have some ideas for working it now that I have the mechanics down properly. I will post more samples later on.
This was a new stitch for me . After some reassurance from Sharon that I had the mechanics of the stitch down I began to explore it until I ran out of room on my sample size piece of 14 ct. Aida cloth.
The first 2 rows were getting the flow going.
The 3rd row I tried different lengths and slants on the legs of the stitch. Some of these were a success but others I felt changed the look of the stitch too much for me.
The 4th row I created the band that I am going to try on a seam later with beads added.
The 5th row is my favorite. I am going to use the stacked concept to make another cell phone pouch.
the circle in the 5th row will make a nice spot motif with beads between the stitches for shimmer.
Overall I was pleased with the sample for this stitch. It is fun to learn new stitches and explore the possibilities for their use.

The stitch for this week TAST challenge is the knotted cretan. Sharonb's blog has wonderful samples as usual.
I had some trouble getting the hang of the stitch so my first sample for this week is a bit boring as I tried to get the flow going. Once I figured out how to make the stitch work I played a bit with the spacing. I also learned that you can pull the knot a bit tighter to get a different look to the stitch.
I also changed the angle of the leg to make it look more like feather stitching. I really like the look of it. (5th row , the first section).
I am working on another sample that I will post later this week. It is much different than any of my other samples and I am enjoying working it.
The stitch for this week is couching. I use couching on a regular basis to add fibers, ribbons and other embellishmeints to my projects. To see Sharon's examples visit her wonderful blog here. You can see more examples of my project where I have used couching in my photos. I couched some of the new fibers I found in the yarns at a Walmart store. I really love these new fibers . I do crochet but when I see these I always think of crazy quilt projects rather than knitting or crochet projects. The texture they add to a block is great and they are great for extra dimension to a block too. As you can see I have used several stitches to couch my threads. I like to use different stitches to couch threads. It depends on the fiber I am couching as to the stitch I use.
The stitch for week 11 is the up and down blanket stitch. I worked my sample for this week on cream 14 ct. Aida cloth in several types of fibers. My favorite example is the perle cooton in gold with the stacking of the stitches. I think this would be great for background texture on a land scape piece that I have been thinking about stitching.
