I posted details of some projects I have been working on lately. Here are some of the photos of the things I have been working on.
The first 2 photos are of a cell phone pouch I made using the sample I made for week 10 of the TAST challenge. The stitch is barred chain.
The next photo is of another cell phone pouch.
The next 2 are of a quilt I have been working on that we call "Bunny Love". I still need to add the borders to finish the top.
The stitch for this week is couching. I use couching on a regular basis to add fibers, ribbons and other embellishmeints to my projects. To see Sharon's examples visit her wonderful blog here. You can see more examples of my project where I have used couching in my photos. I couched some of the new fibers I found in the yarns at a Walmart store. I really love these new fibers . I do crochet but when I see these I always think of crazy quilt projects rather than knitting or crochet projects. The texture they add to a block is great and they are great for extra dimension to a block too. As you can see I have used several stitches to couch my threads. I like to use different stitches to couch threads. It depends on the fiber I am couching as to the stitch I use.
The stitch for week 11 is the up and down blanket stitch. I worked my sample for this week on cream 14 ct. Aida cloth in several types of fibers. My favorite example is the perle cooton in gold with the stacking of the stitches. I think this would be great for background texture on a land scape piece that I have been thinking about stitching.
Here are samples for the herringbone stitch. They are worked on 14 ct. Aida cloth in various threads and seed beads .
This is for a challenge that sharonb is hosting on her blog - (inaminuteago-the blog) and on flickr.com where we are exploring ways to use 1 stitch a week in different threads, on different fabrics, ect.
I am going to create a sample book to use as a teaching aid with my TAST samples.
I am teaching a beginner crazy quilt class at a local quilt shop. I have created this blog for myself as a visual diary of the project and as an aid to my students.
I will begin adding some instruction and photos on a regular basis after the Christmas Holidays. ( just to many things to do this time of the year).
I will share pics of my blocks with close ups of details added. I have created kits for my students with fabrics and some embellishments for each Block of the Month, along with patterns and instructions. We have a 3 hour session once monthly where I show the stitches and how to create the embellishments used for the theme of the month.
This is the first block that I created (we started the class in October).
As requested by the shop owner we are using fabrics available in the shop along with "Crazy For You" foundations for the blocks.
Threads range from a fall palette of colors in various sizes from floss to perle cottons. I even used some rayons and silk ribbon for added texture and dimension.
The following are close ups showing details of the block.
boat leaf - 13mm YLI silk ribbon
seams embellishment in various threads and some of the spot motifs
Of course these are beginner level embellishments as it is a beginner class but as the year goes on the blocks will get more advanced.
If you are interested in more information on the kits or the class itself email me at this link.
